build_dist -h

runnig build_dist -h will start the build immediately (and fail, because -h is not a valid argument).

it would be cool to be able to check what the script does before actually invoking it.

allow out-of-tree building

we can currently call the build_dist script from anywhere, and the build.log will be in the cwd (see #4 ), but the actual workspace will still be in the OS-directory.

i would expect the workspace to be in the cwd as well

drop bashisms

the code uses bash throughout, but i think many things could be made POSIX compliant
