Manually running the install from source works fine. Could be something wrong with the package on pypi.

Ok, I've seen your pull request on this topic, but you broke the non-BSD version. Nevertheless I'm using your good ideas (thanks!) and will publish a test branch in a few moments.

I've tested last branch against PCBSD10. Could you tell me if the branch bsd_comp installs and work correctly for you in MacOSX ?
