It would be neat to put the 3rd party dependencies into a separate layer since they can be a big lot compared to project code&resources. The dependencies don't change that often, which speeds up the build and makes better use of caching.

I had some nice time on doing Jib support for pack.alpha, partly inspired by this project. It would be neat to see more Jib use in the Leiningen land, since Leiningen has quite a reach :)

I haven't gotten around to looking at what Leiningen offers, but I'd think it could be possible to do something similar as in pack.alpha Jib support to create separate layers. Piggybacking on the AOT that Leiningen does would also be good for startup time.
