Build monitor

Measures build times in Visual Studio

To install

Download either via searching in Extension Manager in Visual studio or download it manually

How it works

When any solution is opened, the extension is loaded and will start output to a output-window called "Build monitor" (Found in View -> Output -> Change "Show output from:" dropdown-list). It measures solution total build time and each project built. After every build the data is also saved to a file on disk (see output-window for path) as json.

Notes for contributors

Install the Visual Studio 2013 SDK to get references needed to be able to open the projects.

Add build type info

Display if build is regular "Build" or "Rebuild" or "Clean" etc

ability to configure path to output file

Right now it's hard coded to Environment.SpecialFolder.ApplicationData. I'd like to be able to change where it writes to.

Visual Studio 2015 support

I don't think that anything except manifest needs to be changed so it would be cool if new VS version would be supported.

Upgrade to Visual Studio 2012

Convert total build time to more user-friendly format.

It could be nice to get output in format of hours:minutes:seconds instead of miliseconds. My Visual Studio refuses to open the project so I can't edit it and compile for myself.

Is this awesome tool maintained? If now, maybe it's a good idea to post a call for maintainers?

User interface to display buildtimes

Perhaps a web interface, like a dashboard, where I can see graphs of buildtimes.

This could be a collaborative interface where one could see individual build times (how to identify?) and an aggregate of everyone's build time

Cannot import the following key file: key.pfx. The key file may be password protected.

On attempting my initial build I get the following error message:

I'm assuming I'm doing this wrong, but all attempts to import the key require a password.

Can I get compile time per each file?

Hi, I want to measure complie time per each file in Visual Studio 2012.
Can I do that with BuildMonitor?
(As I test BuildMonitor, it show me build time per a project not per a file.)

Idea: also ouput elapsed build time in the "Build" output window

That way we wouldn't have to switch to "Build monitor" to see timing - unless we wanted to see historical data, etc.

Save dates as Iso 8601 instead of Javascript date

When users load up with old data, automigrate everything.

BuildMonitor causes ReSharper builds to crash

BuildMonitor causes ReSharper builds in VS 2015 to crash. The workaround is to circumvent ReSharper which is not ideal:

enable VS build
restart VS
Suspend Resharper

Which version of .NET is required?

Getting an error when installing that the version of .net that is required is not installed, but it doesn't say which one.

Hi, all contributors,

What exactly software I need to contribute? I've opened the solution in VS Community 2015 (with VS SDK installed) but VSIX project hasn't been loaded poperly. I've tried VS 2017 RC Enterprise (with VS SDK installed) and the project was loaded, but it cannot be compiled due to error message stating that vsix package manifest must contain "Prerequisities" node.
