This repository is an example of how to build Weave Gitops Profiles for a kubernetes cluster to be consumed by the Weave Gitops Profile controller.

Usage

This repository is provided as an example of a collection of profiles for an organization that would like to build kubernetes clusters with platform components to build a PaaS like experience for developers.

This repository should not be used for production deployments as it requires further customisation for real world use. In addition the default deployment values may not be properly secured.

The purpose of publishing this repository is to provide an example of Weave Gitops Profiles to be used in demos and as a base for further customisation.

Please read the documentation for how to set up a profiles-catalog repo of your own and how to consume it from Weave Gitops.

This repository is not guaranteed to be up to date and should not be considered the canonical source of the upstream Helm charts being used here. Please use the upstream repositories for the canonical version and any release notes that effect security.

The charts directory contains the list of profiles that become available once you have configured this repository as a Helm repo source for the profile controller.

These can be selected by the Weave Gitops cluster deployment UI and thus can be used to build a kubernetes platform with built in components preconfigured for your organization.

Create a new release, weave-policy-agent-0.6.2, of the Policy Agent profile to use policy agent 1.2.0

Move to a better maintained chart releaser

The github action that is currently being used not being maintained (https://github.com/stecky/yet-another-chart-releaser-action)

I am thinking we should move towards https://github.com/helm/chart-releaser-action

Create a profile for agent v2.0.0

Create a new profile for agent v2.0.0 which will contain changes from both weaveworks/weave-gitops-enterprise#1540 and
weaveworks/policy-agent#112

Decide on envsubst or templating for the default Profiles-Catalog

Today, we have no made a decisions on if we should implement profiles using envsubst or templating.

We need to make a decisions for the configurations.

Please note that envsubst and templating are typically not compatible

Grafana dashboard is accessible with default credentials

The grafana dashboard is accessible from the external load balancer and is not secured as the default credentials can be used for access once a bad actor has access to the load balancer.
We should always make sure that we ship profiles that are secure by default and need an option to turn on insecure options.

Change the visibility of this project to public

We want to make this repo public so it can be forked as a starting point for weave gitops profiles.

Please update TF-controller to v0.9.0-rc.3

Wave TF-controller v0.9.0-rc.3 is the recent version with known bugs + workaround. It contains the multi-tenancy feature that might be useful for PoC. Please update it to this version instead of v0.7.0.
