I tried adding a

:py:module:`sphinx.ext.githubpages`

role to my documentation and I got:

WARNING: Unknown interpreted text role "py:module".

However, replacing it by

:py:mod:`sphinx.ext.githubpages`

did the trick.

I just wanted to say you should consider adding the sphinx-extension topic, https://github.com/topics/sphinx-extension, to the repo so it is easier for others to find on the GitHub ecosystem (I had a hard time re-finding this one). There are currently 143 other sphinx extensions that use that topic.

I totally missed that clicking on those links would take you to something like https://webknjaz.github.io/intersphinx-untangled/setuptools.rtfd.io/; I just assumed they linked to the named sites. I think adding some explanatory text on the index would make it even more useful. 😅
