Building the Crest Template Engine

To unlock the full potential of templates in Crest, I hope to expand the template engine to support general logic statements (eg. if/else, maps, loops, etc.). There are many ways to approach this, and I am still contemplating how this should be done. Some requirements of the engine are as follows:

• Must have some benefit over other template engines
• Must be interpreted and rendered efficiently
• Must catch errors before rendering
• Simple syntax

The Django Template Engine is an excellent example of a template engine that meets these requirements, but I hope to build something that offers even more value, seeing as templates are incredibly versatile and can reduce server-side abstraction if done right.
