balenaprint's Issues

VPN Tunnel Endpoint Error

I’m new to this, followed the tutorial and got an older printer working. It worked for about a month and half and now I’m getting the below listed error. Can’t quite figure out what changed. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Device appears offline even if I restart. I confirmed there is an active internet connection. Went offline 8 days ago.

Device xxxx does not have a registered vpn tunnel endpoint

One possible reason is because nothing is listening on port 80 on the device.

Version

Please update CUPS from 2.2.10 to 2.3.3

[DRIVER REQUEST] Adafruit Thermal Printer

I recently followed this guide, and set up the printer on Raspbian. Any ideas on how to get it to work with this project?

I have connected the printer via the txd, rxd and gnd pins on the raspberry pi zero, and it has power. I also have a ppd file with the info for the printer.

What I'm using

Basically, I would like this to be able to detect serial printers.

Unable to print from client on same subnet

Unable to print from a shared printer on the network unless I also enable "Allow printing from the internet" in server settings:

Expected behavior:
When sharing a printer, clients on the same network should be able to print to that printer.

Actual behavior:
The client is able to discover printer but when trying to print, presented with "You do not have permission to use this printer". Must enable Allow printing from the internet" in server settings for it to work.

Adding printers on Raspberry Pi (1) Model B+

Adding a printer via the CUPS web interface fails on my rpi (1) that I now reuse as a print server (Thanks a lot for this great project!).

I've gone through a bit of troubleshooting and found the reason the printer setup fails before the driver selection page. The driver list is too long to be parsed by a rather slow pi before a hard timeout is reached, so you receive a rather odd error containing both "Error" and "success" instead of being able to select a driver and therefore add the printer.

A possible fix for me was to run lpinfo -m on the cups container as described here.
That way the driver XML gets parsed beforehand and the CUPS GUI can actually display all information in time, so that I was able to add my printer via the GUI as expected after running the command and refreshing the CUPS web interface.

You may want to run lpinfo -m on service startup, so that others don't have to deal with that manually. It seems that lpinfo -m actually caches the available drivers, so that the GUI can be displayed in time even on very slow hardware.

need guide workflow for printer requires proprietary plugins

i'm using HP Color Laserjet Pro CP 1025, when running Balena-CUPS install printer driver, appeared this printer requires proprietary plugins. if do nothing about this plugin, after install Balena-CUPS pop-up printer driver for CP 1025, then print job can not finish normally, error happed say "filter failed".

so i guess i should follow the guide to install required plugins, but i can not find any guide to do so.

Readme missing Deploy with balena button

@willswire I was looking through some user analysis and your project drives a lot of installations using our Deploy with balena method. I realized that a lot of that traffic is from our blog post about your project. I noticed that your readme doesn't have the button.

I tried to send a PR with a prospective fix, but didn't have authorization to submit. If you're interested in doing this, I'm more than happy to add it. Or if you want the raw content to edit yourself, happy to submit that as well.

Just let me know. If not here, at [email protected]. Thanks for your hard work!
