The custom function created to import xlsx & xls files (import-Excel) is slightly slower than the native cmdlet Import-CSV. The reason is the general slowness of Excel modules in PS (known issue).

To speed this up, we can create a VBscript for Excel imports, but that would be another decision to take (not a big fan of running unnecessary VBscripts on prod). We can also change the linear processing of each line in $sheet.Cells.Item.Invoke() to parallel, and that would slightly improve the speed for larger files.

On the bright side, the current (import-Excel) provides additional features than Import-CSV, such as:

• Allows choosing which tab to be imported from the Excel file
• Shows the progress of the import process

And you'll be prompted to confirm the changes once the import is done. So keeping it in the background for few more minutes won't hurt. 😄

For large excel files (more than 200 lines), I suggest to use the CSV version for fast processing.
