dimdoors's Issues

Incorrect lighting in sub-personal-dimension on server restart

Time for another report. Steps to reproduce: Place personal dimensional door. Enter. Place dimensional door. Enter. Logout, restart server, log in. Result looks like this when it should be 100% white like previous. Also, my client minimap seems to show the dimension with a black outer color on reload vs white:

2015-03-20_18 00 58

Again, like the previous issue I reported, this only occurs on a server. Not on a client opened to LAN. There's also nothing in the log for this one since it's rendering-related. This has been tested sans every other mod as well, so feel free to ignore the other stuff in my inventory.

EDIT: Also, running on test8. Forgot that.

Crash

sorry about the lack of a full log will drop it in a new comment so it updates the issue =P

Door duping

In the process of investigating #24 , I added an additional warp door to my pocket dimension, so I could remove and replace the entry and exit portals.
The scenario is, I started with one golden door, one dimensional door and one warp door.
I placed the dimesional door , and created a pocket dimension, which I put some stuff in.
Then I figured I wanted it loaded, so I removed the internal exit door and replaced it with the golden door (hitting bug #24) , So far, so good. Then I placed the warp door and went through. I now have one dimensional door in my inventory.
Now I proceeded to go back in the pocket dimenion, and removed the golden door, then went through the warp door and removed the normal dimensional door exit in the overworld, and replaced it with the golden door. Now I go back in the dimension, the exit door is now a golden door, but bug #24 still exists.
So, I go through the warp door and remove the overworld side of that door. And I remove the rift with a rift remover. Then I head back around and remove the internal warp door from the pocket dimension, and I then I wonder, what happens if I place it again and step through? Turns out it recreated a wooden warp door again, but no platform. I remove that warp door again and head back into the pocket dimension. Passing through the warp door again without replacing it just puts me in the overworld with no door.
However, after the end of that sequence of events I currently have
2 Dimensional doors in my inventory
1 pocket dimension with a gold entry / exit door pair
2 warp door in my inventory
1 warp door as an additional exit from the dimension.
I have essentially doubled my door count, and clearly could do so as often as I liked.
I'm not sure how big an issue this, as people can just steal all the doors from a dimensional dungeon, place a wooden warp door and then remove the door on the overworld side.. but in this case I could dupe golden doors as well if I wanted.
The best case would be to have door placement require two doors, and you only get back one of them if you remove one side, or removing one removes both sides.
essentially a dimensional door consists of 3 things, two doors of a specific material, and an ender pearl. Removing the "doors" should give you one regular door of that material. and placing a regular door on a rift should make a dimensional door, in the assumption there is already a door on the far side of a pre-existing rift. Things like rift signatures shouldn't create a rift a normal door can be placed on , but a "targeting" rift that needs a full dimensional door to place both sides of the connection, or going through a single door doesn't make a door back, you have to place that separately.
I don't see any way of "fixing" this issue that doesn't increase the chance of a player getting stuck in a pocket dimension somewhere, so some way of dropping to limbo for the unlucky person trapped in a pocket dimension would be nice.

Crash out of nothing - worked for week, now down

What does this mean?

golden door chunk loading doesnt properly overlap with pocket dimension area

I placed a golden door in a pocket dimension, replacing the normal exit door.
Checked opis for force loaded chunks, only the three chunks directly next to the wall the door is placed on overlap the area of the pocket dimension. The rest of the loaded chunks are "beyond" the golden door, in inaccessible space.
These two pictures are taken without moving, as you can see from the mapwriter forced chunk overlay, the loaded chunks are loaded behind me as I face into the pocket dimension, my back is to the golden door.

[Suggestion] Rework mod to offer better long term and short term goals, more consistant experience

Currently DimDoors is a bit of a mixed experience
Broadly, the mod fufils 3 purposes

  1. It provides an set of cool and interesting puzzle dungeons to explore, with a chance of popping out somewhere in another dimension or elsewhere in your overworld. The primary unique loot in these dungeons is world thread which is supposed to lead to the other purposes of the mod , 2&3 below
  2. Allow you to create a series of empty dimensions for building base areas, farms, whatever , with the option of making them only accessible by you, and chunkloading
  3. Provide instant free transportation between any two points in any dimensions

These purposes are somewhat undermined by a few design choices:
The unique loot in Dimension Dungeons is world thread, however, you can get world thread in other ways, such as setting up a cobble gen over a rift or hanging around a rift storm .
The main use of world thread is to make your own doors, but to get standard dimensional and warp doors you can just mine them out of the dungeons. This allows you to do most of 2 and 3 without stepping more than a few rooms into the dimensional dungeons, and the instant transportation is basically available from the get-go.

The mod also produces way too many structures around the world filled with doors, the rift blade gets hardly any use due to the rifts world-genning as open and dropping a door on the overworld side once you enter the rift. Plus the post gen appearance of the exit portal (complete with door) when you leave the dungeons further clutters the overworld and other dimensions.

I would suggest the following changes to make the mod have a workable progression, avoid the world clutter, make the rift blade relevant , encourage dimensional dungeon exploration, and push the instant transport option to the end game.

  1. Remove the structure world gen. Make rifts gen up as mostly closed, but with a small random chance of opening for a short time. Also make existing rifts jump around unless they have a door dropped on them to stabilize them, this jump timer is reset if the rift is used/opened. An earlyish progression multiblock could be added that would prevent a rift jumping around but not open it like a door.
  2. Remove the world thread dropping from rifts embedded in materials, and rift storms
  3. Don't place a door on a rift when it is used, force the player to open it with a rift blade every time unless they place their own door on it. Having a door placed on the inside of a DimDungeon is fine, but don't place the door if it's not been placed there by worldgen.
  4. Don't have mined doors drop Full Dimensional doors, Mined DimDoors drop just an iron door, mined warp doors drop just a wooden door, leaving the rift behind as normal.
  5. Don't have exit portal create permanent structures. Use a short lived world fabric style material if liquids or empty space is there, make exit portals just temporary rift openings unless again stabilized with a door.
Make exits mostly one way, once the portal closes a different coloured rift is produced that will eventually fade away instead of jumping, this becomes a full normal rift if a door is placed on it.
  6. Push the rift signature tool up to some special drop only obtainable from specific events deep in the Dimensional Dungeons, e.g. from rooms only available at a certain depth, perhaps with a boss involved.
  7. Put some hints to the rift blade, maybe a book or something , in regular dungeon or stronghold chests/on villagers to kick start the mod, and further info in books / puzzles in the DimDungeons.
  8. Add a rift analyzer tool , positioned before the rift blade, that gives useful information about rifts (stable/unstable, time until it jumps/is removed, one way/two way, leads to a dungeon or an empty dim etc.)

These changes should work to
Make the rift blade a useful (indeed vital) tool for working through the mod
Make the creation of personal or player created empty dimensions a more mid game event predicated on exploring deeply enough into the dungeons
Make the mod less intrusive in the overworld by eliminating swathes of incongruous floating doors.
Push the instant transport aspect to a limited reward rather then the go-to free transport mechanism for all purposes.
There would be a slightly increased chance of the unwary player being stranded in some distant dimension if they didnt play attention. A config option could allow those players that have ever entered a DimDoor or rift to hold down a key to get transported to limbo if outside the end/overworld/nether (with appropriate giant eye/monolith noises)

Feature Request - ID Manager Config

I noticed something interesting when adding mods is that their was an ID manager conflict between the mod I added and Dimensional doors. Basically it was world side only but still this could prove problematic ... especially when modifying Dimensional ID's ; I was curious if there was a way to have Dimensional Doors programmed in a way where either it didn't steal dimensional Id's at all or that it had a config and log that monitored IDs written to the modpack with the information "ID" "World Name" "Last Accessed." I realize this might be a big job but as great a modder as you have been I didn't think it would be impossible ... or I suppose you could wait till microsoft does the big C++ transfer they have been discussing ... (Supposedly Dev's are considering transferring MC to C++ in version 10.1 Since it has more limitless capabilities.) Information is currently inadequate at best.

What is a Rift Key?

I'm wondering what a rift key does. I've been trying to test it for a long time, but no such luck. I've looked at the code for both the item and the DDLock class, and figuring that it locks a door, I've been unsuccessful in doing so. Could you please help?

Bugs

I don't know, if it's a bug or not, but "Personal dimensional door" and "Golden dimensional door" have the same crafting recipe (2 golden doors + stable fabric), so I cannot craft one of them.
Is it ok, that Monoliths are no more just eyes flying in the air, but the eyes on a black background, that looks like a real monolith?
Oh, yea, and the Monoliths open their eyes too fast. In 1.6.4 I could run away, now it's really hard.

Biome ID Conflict

I am running DimensionalDoors 2.2.5test9 with many different mods including ones that add new biomes and dimensions it might be from: Biomes O Plenty, Thaumcraft, Twilight Forest, Ars Magica 2, Blood Magic, Witchery or any other mod. Here is the crash report:

crash-2015-12-06_17.24.54-client.txt

EDIT: The crash is caused by Twilight Forest. Nothing a config can't change, but you might want to change your IDs in the default config because Twilight Forest is very popular in many modpacks.

I got a crash that appears to realate to this mod

(Suggestion) "Enable Door Rendering"=false

Never really got around to mentioning this back in the 1.5 or 1.6 days, but thought I should use this opportunity while it's here. Could you make it so when that config option is set to false, a black, texture-less portal is rendered instead of, well, nothing?
My toaster has been having trouble rendering that texture inside doors (and often resulting in me getting OpenGL out of memory errors), so I'm forced to turn that setting off while checking out these 1.7.10 versions, which works but can get confusing sometimes.
I guess another option would be leaving both options as they currently are, and adding this black door as a separate thing.

Vox I truly appreciate how hard you have worked on this :D Its been a pleasure testing for you you!

Exiting dungeon through Warp Doors creates weird lag.

So every time I try exiting a Dimensional Dungeon through an exit warp door my game starts to lag horribly. Sometimes it is so bad the world doesn't load at all and I have to restart. This doesn't happen when I am in the dungeon or when I use any of the other doors or go back the way I came. The lag persists through the rest of the time I play but if I go back into the dungeon through the door I came out of the lag goes away.

Personal Dimensional door client disconnect/crash

Steps to reproduce: Enter personal dimensional door. Place another Personal Dimensional Door inside this dimension. Break the door just placed. Use rift eraser on generated rift. Client will be disconnected, but not full-out crash to launcher. Server doesn't crash. I couldn't get a backtrace, but it should be reproducible.

P.S.
Thank you for continuing this mod. It's one of my favorites. I would have forward ported it myself from the 1.6.4 version had you not. ;)

Crash upon creating new world with test 8 and Forge 10.13.2.1307

I don't know if this is a known issue or not, but on generating / loading / whatever a new world for the first time I got a null pointer error and Minecraft crashed to desktop. The weird thing is: I had just been running exactly the same set of mods & version of Forge, finding gateways, and walking through them, with no problem. I even spotted a worldgen rift. It worked just fine, for some reason. The world seed was 6985892767528132485 and it was a Biomes O' Plenty world.

Damage when leaving placed doors

I created a test world to play around and I placed several Dimensional Doors (Iron) and Personal Dimensional Doors (quartz) and entered and exited them. Everything seems fine, except that when I leave a dimension, it sometimes causes damage directly or spawns you several blocks higher than the door. If it does just damage you directly, the damage message from another mod says "fell from a high place".

It doesn't happen every time I go through a door, and has never happened when going through a door that is placed automatically like dungeons.

[Suggestion] Instead of creating fresh dimensions for each pocket, instead use single dimension to house every pocket dimension

This will probably cause a huge restructuring of the mod, but instead of kicking off an entirely new dimension for each pocket/rift/dungeon/etc., why not have a single dimension for every pocket dimension? This would be especially helpful for player-made pocket dimensions, as they are always going to be the same size, 16x16. Given that you know the size of the pocket dimensions, it should be possible to manage every generated pocket dimension internally, and when generating a new one, just pick a new (set of) chunk(s) to use for the new pocket dimension. It may seem strange, but Random Things already does this sort of thing with their Spectre Dimension; each player gets his or her own room, and every time a new player generates their own room, it's just offset by a few chunks and placed next to the previous one. Not only that, but Compact Machines, if I remember correctly, also goes this route and for each compact machine built/placed, it generates a new pocket room in a single dimension.

Having so many dimensions generating when they're only being used for at most 9 chunks for so, seems inefficient and wasteful, especially for other mods that need multiple dimensions such as Mystcraft or RFTools.

Having said all that, I understand this would be a huge undertaking, involving ripping out many assumptions being made in the current code, so I understand if this is too big of a task; just thought I'd bring it up.

Error when closing world...

Don't think this is a huge problem since it's just an error saying something has already been done, but figured i'd report it anyway.

When closing a world, I see the following error implying the dimension is being unloaded twice:

Dimensions' levels

In previous versions each dimensional door led one dimension level down, and warp door - one level up. I mean, if you passed two dimensional doors, the warp door wouldn't lead you to overworld, but to first dim. door level (and not to first dim. door room). And if you continued passing through dim doors, you ended up going to dimensional maze.
My English is not really good, but I hope, I could explain it correct =) Or at least understandable.

Enemy Spawn In Dimensional Doors

Okay I noticed now enemies are spawning in the dimensional doors and in crazy amounts. I am using test8 this didn't happen in test 7

A option in config

A option in the config to change the rarity the doors ore spawned in the overworld would be nice .

Personal Dimensional Doors Erase On Entry?

Okay Zer0 here, so I was testing the mod as much as possible for you vox and the only issue I can see is if someone places a personal dimensional pocket dimension (the white room as I call it.) and you let someone else enter it erases all items and changes ... I am not sure what could be causing this. Does not happen with any other type of dimensional door.

Appears to be a neat condition where the gateway was trying to generate in the spawn chunk, which happens during initialization, well before WorldEvent.Load where PocketManager is initialized.

Seed depends somewhat on mods (couldn't reproduce with just dimdoors on this seed due to rng being different without other worldgen), in my collection at the moment was 314159265359

Rift key right-click server crash

Upon right clicking with a rift key (looking at a door, or not, in a pocket dimension, or not - basically doesn't matter) causes an immediate server crash. Stack dump:

This is also built from the source of the latest git revision, since I wanted the fix that was just committed and I like filing bug reports.

trouble with joining LAN-Server

I opened a savegame to LAN to play together with my girlfriend. Everything were fine until she entered a DimDoor dungeon. This was her crash log: http://pastebin.com/20SQt7QF
Since then if she tries to connect to the server her MC keeps generating copies of this log: http://pastebin.com/rGSqvSEm

maybe it doesn't matter but after the first crash we decided to close the server. As you can see in log it's been late.
This happened first with test10 from notabadminer but it continues happening with test9 from @CannibalVox

edit: because the second crashlog happened with test10 I wanted to add one after changing to test9 so you can compare both settings: http://pastebin.com/tHvQK7BS

World Loading

I went to load my world and my minecraft crashed. I was using other mods and was working fine before and Ive used this world alot. Open eye said dimensional doors was the problem and I removed it from my mod folder then the world opened fine. It looks like a bug so do you mind taking a look?
crash-2015-12-22_15.40.51-server.txt.
I love your mod and would be very grateful If you could find the problem.

strange lag

I have a modpack with dim doors in it but whenever I go through one of the rifts, and then through another door inside that rift, it'll lag me. There's no "took too long to keep up, server running x ticks behind" it just stops everything. Relogging does not work and it'll stay like that for as far as I can tell, eternity.

Bug - When using /vanish command from forge essentails while DIMDOORS is active.
