Instead of rotating until you find a valid projection, loop through a number of iterations and select the valid projection with the least number of crossings. Increasing the number of crossings is much more expensive than calculating more projections.

Functions that rely on a random seed for rotations etc., need to be replaced. Future updates may change projection logic and result in different rotations.

Right now I use NBConvert with explicit directories. However I need to add/refactor test directories manually. I should make the script search for all test subdirectories.
