Description of problem:
seems decluttering changes the way a grid card sees the final card, in this case a custom minimalistic area card.
first card is decluttered and only shows the top section of the grid 1st card
2nd card is a verbose card and shows full size

Description of problem:
When decluttering-card
is used to create a card of type: iframe
which is subsequently used in a panel
, the iframe only consumes 50% of the screen height. Simply using the iframe card directly causes the iframe to consume exactly the full viewport area. This is due to the way that decluttering-card
wraps the iframe with its own card, but does not pass through the necessary CSS styles.

--mdc-icon-size: 90%
--mdc-icon-size doesn't show the correct size when switches between vertical mode and horizontal mode with decluttering-card template, it will show the mdi icon bigger than the background button when my phone / tablet is vertical , but the size is right if my phone / tablet is horizontal. If i just use --mdc-icon-size in lovelace , it will fine. showing the correct size only 90% of the background button both vertical mode and horizontal mode on my tablet and iphone.

Hi. First of all, this card is amazing. It allowed me to shrink my UI config by a lot. It's way easier to maintain by a huge margin.
The only thing I haven't been able to do is declutter my picture-elements cards. I have a couple of them that contain similar elements, but the "frame itself" (the picture-elements card) is too different so I can't just go and move the whole card to a template.
Doing something like so would actually be amazing:
decluttering_templates:
demo_icon:
element:
- type: icon
icon: mdi:alert-circle
title: Problem detected!
entity: 'entity'
tap_action:
action: more-info
style:
right: -1%
top: 7%
color: var(--google-red-500)
filter: drop-shadow(black 0 0 1px)

- title: Home
path: home
icon: mdi:home
cards:
- type: picture-elements
image: /local/frontend/demo_bg.jpg
elements:
- type: custom:decluttering-card
template: demo_icon
variables:
- entity: sensor.demo
Thanks again for the awesome work!

Description of problem:
Hello,
When I use the decluttering templates for https://github.com/AmoebeLabs/flex-horseshoe-card, on mobile devices, the icons dont show on the screen. They work on Chrome/IE/Edge.
Without declatering-card, they work well on any platform.
PS: I am not using the icons as variables.
Javascript errors shown in the web inspector (if applicable):
Additional information:
This does not work:
wget https://raw.githubusercontent.com/custom-cards/decluttering-card/master/dist/decluttering-card.js
because the folder master does not exist. Where can I get a copy of decluttering-card.js?
My decluttering templates are getting rather large and was wondering if I was able to map these to individual files?
Instead of this in my lovelace.yaml
decluttering_templates:
my_first_template: # This is the name of a template
default:
- icon: fire
card:
type: custom:button-card
name: 'name'
icon: 'mdi:icon'
my_second_template: # This is the name of another template
card:
type: custom:vertical-stack-in-card
cards:
- type: horizontal-stack
cards:
- type: custom:button-card
entity: 'entity_1'
- type: custom:button-card
entity: 'entity_2'
we could do something like the views
decluttering_templates:
- !include lovelace/decluttering_templates/my_first_template.yaml
- !include lovelace/decluttering_templates/my_second_template.yaml
is this already possible? I have tried and it doesn't error rendering but says it cant find the template.
I would like to have a fallback support for example for the icon so that if no icon got specified in the card it will fall back to the fallback icon.
decluttering_templates:
my_first_template: # This is the name of a template
default:
- icon: fire
card:
type: custom:button-card
icon: icon
fallback: mdi:alert
name: 'name'
It could look something like this.
Since updating Home Assistant to 0.107, my template, which includes a divider for use in entities lists, no longer works.
I'm receiving this message:
Unknown type encountered: divider
I updated my decluttering card to version 0.4.1 and I have migrated my lovelace resources from ui-lovelace.yaml
to the lovelace:
section in my config.
If I specify the divider manually (don't use decluttering-card) the divider works fine.
My template is as follows:
large_divider:
default:
- opacity: 0.25
card:
type: divider
style:
background-color: var(--secondary-text-color)
height: 1px
margin: 15px auto
opacity: 'opacity'
I'm using the template as follows:
type: entities
show_header_toggle: false
entities:
[ ... entities ... ]
- type: custom:decluttering-card
template: large_divider
[ ... entities ... ]
Thanks!
I can't seem to figure out how/where to add the decluttering templates definitions when using UI managed lovelace dashboards. Could someone point me in the right direction?
What I tried was changing my lovelace config from this:
lovelace:
mode: storage
to this
lovelace:
mode: storage
decluttering_templates:
my_first_template: # This is the name of a template
default:
- icon: fire
card:
type: custom:button-card
name: 'name'
icon: 'mdi:icon'
But this is not valid for the lovelace configuration:
Invalid config for [lovelace]: [decluttering_templates] is an invalid option for [lovelace].
Hello, I have this template:
light_rgb_template:
card:
- type: custom:slider-entity-row
entity: light.light_name
style: |
:host {
color: {% if is_state('binary_sensor.light_name_autoon', 'on') %} green {% endif %};
}
toggle: true
And I use it like this:
- type: custom:decluttering-card
template: light_rgb_template
variables:
- light_name: hallway_tablelight
This is replacing my old config:
- type: custom:slider-entity-row
entity: light.hallway_tablelight
style: |
:host {
color: {% if is_state('binary_sensor.hallway_tablelight_autoon', 'on') %} green {% endif %};
}
toggle: true
In the Lovelace I get the error:
Cannot read property 'startsWith' of undefined
type: 'custom:decluttering-card'
template: light_rgb_template
variables:
- light_name: hallway_tablelight
What I'm doing wrong? Or is this a bug?
Thank you
Hello,
My decluttering templates are taking too much code lines and im looking to split my code in different .yaml files.
For now im didnt find any solution on the old posts, so it is possible to use !include my_template.yaml???
I would appreciate some help!
Thanks
In Home Assistant 2021.5 we're going to introduce strategies. A strategy is a JavaScript block that is executed on the loaded configuration before the dashboard as a whole or a specific view is being rendered.
It is the right spot to pre-process configurations and replace templates etc. The exact thing that decluttering-card does.
In the case of decluttering-card:
An example of a strategy is here: https://gist.github.com/balloob/bf2715efba46420d6ba1a01586946308 . Note, this example is purely generating a configuration, but as you can see, the original configuration is passed in as info.config
.
You will be able to play with a preview of this in the April 24 nightly.
This isn't a bug report, but a question.
Is it possible to nest variables, both in the caller and the default? I'm guessing it isn't, but I wanted to be sure before I try to find a workaround.
Example:
default:
row1:
- name
- image
With the idea being to call them with row1.name
I'm not expecting it to work, but I wanted to know if I was wrong before I try to figure out how to make it work :)
I am having a weird problem where using the decluttering card with vertical-stack-in-card would not show the standard box-shadow that comes with every card on the UI.
Example below:
- type: 'custom:vertical-stack-in-card'
cards:
- type: horizontal-stack
cards:
- type: 'custom:button-card'
entity: light.home_theatre
icon: 'mdi:movie-roll'
name: Pot lights
layout: icon_name
styles:
card:
- height: 88px
- width: 180px
name:
- font-size: 15px
- font-weight: bold
- text-transform: uppercase
- type: entities
entities:
- type: 'custom:slider-entity-row'
entity: light.home_theatre
icon: 'mdi:lamp'
full_row: true
hide_state: true
- type: 'custom:decluttering-card'
template: dimmer_button_slider
variables:
- entity: light.home_theatre
- icon: movie-roll
- name: Pot lights
The decluttering_card_template:
decluttering_templates:
dimmer_button_slider:
type: 'custom:vertical-stack-in-card'
cards:
- type: horizontal-stack
cards:
- type: 'custom:button-card'
entity: 'entity'
icon: 'mdi:icon'
name: 'name'
layout: icon_name
styles:
card:
- height: 88px
- width: 180px
name:
- font-size: 15px
- font-weight: bold
- text-transform: uppercase
- type: entities
entities:
- type: 'custom:slider-entity-row'
entity: 'entity'
icon: 'mdi:icon'
full_row: true
hide_state: true
Tested it with button-card and works fine.
When I did a dev inspect, it seems the box-shadow is set on a lower div.. that is as much I can check..
Just tested on 0.2.0 as well.
Hello I have created a decluttering card to simplify my RGB lights:
light_rgb_template:
card:
type: custom:slider-entity-row
entity: light.light_name
style: |
:host {
color: {% if is_state('binary_sensor.light_name_autoon', 'on') %} green {% endif %};
}
toggle: true
min: 1
max: 100
step: 1
Also tried the variant
light_rgb_template:
card:
type: custom:slider-entity-row
entity: 'entity'
style: |
:host {
color: {% if is_state('binary_sensor.light_name_autoon', 'on') %} green {% endif %};
}
toggle: true
min: 1
max: 100
step: 1
It works ok, but the "entities" card toggle header does not detect the entity and keeps the header switch off when the entity in the "decluttering-card" is on:
Is this possible?

Description of problem:
The decluttering card still takes up space even when all its contents are hidden. Since this is a wrapper card I can see how it would be difficult to know when all it's content is hidden, though.
It isn't completely the fault of this card as it seems like it does try to detect this and hide itself. However, some cards don't hide themselves properly and I think we could try to be more robust in how we hide ourselves.
Additional information:
The only idea I have here is in addition to how we check if child cards are hidden, we could also hide ourselves if the size they are taking up is 0? You can see here that the offending card (that should be applying display: none
but doesnt) has no dimensions:
but the decluttering-card still does since we don't apply display: none
:
Have decluttering cards set up and working across single dashboards, but using it on different dashboards results in an error:
"undefined is not an object (evaluating 't.config.decluttering_templates[e.template]’)”
The use case is tablets with different dashboards in different rooms, so I would want to use, for example, my 'House Status’ card across each room.
Is this possible? I’m using the Lovelace GUI and pasting the template YAML in the default dashboard’s Raw Configuration editor.
I'd like to be able to reference variables in defaults. For example:
decluttering_templates:
room_card:
default:
light_entity: 'light.room'
card:
type: entity
entity: 'light_entity'
That template could then be used with either of the following:
- type: custom:decluttering-card
template: room_card
variables:
- room: office
- type: custom:decluttering-card
template: room_card
variables:
- room: office
- light_entity: light.office_floor_lamp
I get this error when trying to define a simple template:
ui-lovelace.yaml:
decluttering_templates:

card:
- type: sensor
entity: 'sensor_temperature'
name: test
the card:
type: 'custom:decluttering-card'

variables:
- sensor_temperature: sensor.synology_dsm_cpu_load_total
the error:

{
"type": "custom:decluttering-card",
"template": "test",
"variables": [
{
"sensor_temperature": "sensor.synology_dsm_cpu_load_total"

}

mediaquery:

cards: 'cards'
However, the mediaquery doesn't work for some reason. If I use the layout-card on its own and not as a template for the decluttering-card everything works as it should.

I tried to use the !include statement to have some sort of re-use within templates, but I get errors (mapping errors, expecting ':', etc.), so include doesn't seem to be supported or I am doing something wrong 😄.
What I would want for instance:
So for template 'specific1':
default:
!include 'template-defaults.yaml' (defines defaults for valuex, valuey and valuez)
# Now override some values
- valuex: 11
- valuey: 22
And template 'specific2':
default:
!include 'template-defaults.yaml' (defines defaults for valuex, valuey and valuez)
# Now override some values
- valuex: 11
- valuez: 33

I'm seeing this in the front-end but it took me a while to track it down as the error is a bit misleading.
The cause of the issue is in fact that I forgot to add the object decluttering_templates to my main lovelace config
The error occurs when the code is checking that decluttering exists in the config (js object)
These line numbers are not going to help but I'm sure you can find the code
The exception on line 1717 never gets thrown because of the way the the pre-check is being done
I think you need...

I'm trying to use decluttering card and lovelace_gen together but ran in to a problem where variables from the decluttering card isn't parsed the way they're supposed to with lovelace_gen.

template: test_template
variables:

- type: custom:decluttering-card

the problem is that lovelace_gen seems to interpret showMe
as 'showMe'
instead of 'a'
or 'b'
.
The output becomes a - failed
or b - failed
.
Is there a way to solve this?
HA 2021.4 introduced a new feature: Warnings for undefined variables in Templates.
This jams up decluttering-card if you keep a browsers open during HA restart. Lovelace tries to render the card, and HA starts spewing the warnings because they allow things to start before everything's ready.
I reported it over here as an enhancement, but they feel this should be an issue for the decluttering-card. Not sure if you can hold off until started or not...
Release that introduces this issue:
2021.4

During a HA restart, Lovelace reports not all entities will be available until HA Completes starting, but if any browser window is open, Lovelace starts rendering that decluttering_templates card.

Hi, I have decluttering templates working quite well, including nested ones. However, I've run into a block.
I have several rooms, each with a binary_sensor.roomname_window
entity. I pass the roomname as text when I call the template entity, and it all works great.
However, I'd also like to have a separate page where the roomname
is set by input_select.room_selector
with the various room names listed.
So I have this:
decluttering_templates:
test_decluttering_template:
card:
type: entities
title: 'title'
entities:
- type: custom:template-entity-row
state: 'roomname'
name: roomname_variable
- type: custom:template-entity-row
state:
name: Window state
And the cards:
cards:
- type: custom:decluttering-card
template: test_decluttering_template
variables:
- title: Passing the value of the input_select
- roomname:
- type: custom:decluttering-card
template: test_decluttering_template
variables:
- title: passing_direct_string (\"kitchen\")
- roomname: kitchen
I've tried all sorts of variations, using custom:template-entity-row
or directly using - entity: 'binary_sensor.roomname_window'
and so on. I've tried using the
function instead of states.input_select.room_selector.state
and so on.
Nothing is working for me. Some fail with "Unknown" in the UI, others don't render the card with various types of error. Happy to supply those errors if anyone thinks it might help.
Has anyone every seen this before and have an idea on how to fix please?

Enhancement Request.
I have 30+ button cards in my HA instance and I am now using the decluttering-card to provide a consistent behavior and style for all the buttons on all the views. This has worked great in that it allows me to update this one card to change the behavior (ie. tap_action) or style (ie. label color) across the entire site!
I have found that there are occasions where I need a few cards to be slightly different than what was defined in the decluttering-card. I don't want to create another variable and have the color specified in the variable section of every instance of the card, as it defeats the purpose of making a single change to update the style for all the cards. I could also duplicate the decluttering-card and specify the one item that's different, but again, it defeats the purpose of decluttering-card.
It would be nice if I could specify a variable in the decluttering-card, but have a default value if I don't specify it when using the card. For instance, I may want the labels on all my cards to be blue, but I need a few of them to be red for whatever reason. I would like to specify the blue style color in the decluttering-card, but allow the variable to be overridden with the color red for the specific button instantiation.
A decluttering-card configuration may look like this:
decluttering_templates:
my_first_template: # This is the name of a template
type: custom:button-card
name: 'name'
icon: 'mdi:icon'
styles:
label:
- color: 'label_color | blue
Can you add Home Assistant Cast support.
A comment on the HA forum is:
**The best thing is to reach out to the dev of the card. There are issues with the lit element and maybe even the local files they might be pulling…
Copy to clipboard
var LitElement = LitElement || Object.getPrototypeOf(customElements.get("hui-view"));
if the corresponding bit at the end doesn’t say “hui-view” you can try editing it to say that… and make sure you change the version number in lovelace resources or it won’t load it.
That might make it work. I my case I also had to wrap a file URL to make it work as well.**
Can you do something with it?
