[BUG] Proxmox VE is shown to be debian about macchina HOT 7 CLOSED

Ok, thank you I guess I was confused as other fetching programs like neofetch have said proxmox.

I saw now that it does indeed say debian. I can close this for now as I don't think it's worth it to do a workaround for a single distribution.

Hi,

Distribution information is obtained from /etc/os-release, if that says it's Debian, then it's assumed to be Debian. This page from the Proxmox VE website confirms that the platform is indeed Debian-based.

Thanks, we should probably figure out a way to effectively detect virtual machines and report information more accurately.

well I virtualized it to test out the software but even when I ran it on my bare metal machine thr problem persisted. I think this has to do with that proxmox still has debian information in /etc/os-release so I am not sure this is anything that can be fixed unless you plan to detect operating systems in a different way, I know it worked on neofetch if that helps.

Changing the os-release is definitely something I'll bring up to proxmox so more accurate information can be fetched.

Well they're not misusing the /etc/os-release file, so I don't think they can/should do anything about this issue.

Just out of curiosity. You guys would not want any other way to fetch OS information? I

am not saying you should I just kinda got interested in how others fetch it that lead to a different output.

EDIT: ignore me. I realized other fetching software had a workaround for each special distro like this one. This would be ridiculous to add.

My only preference is that the distribution readout should mainly identify the distribution.
