Good catch 👍 , this bug appears only with a manual installation. I'll fix it ASAP.
For now, you can delete the first line of file (require "jekyll/timeago/version") and it should work. Thanks!
PD. I'll keep this open until I can fix that.

Well, I had to try manual installation, because your README doesn't say anything about this:
gem install jekyll-timeago
After installing this gem I'm able to use gems: ['jekyll/timeago']
Would be awesome if you add this to README :)

Your current way is most recommended since it's Jekyll native way to install third-party plugins.
