Oi, Grandad!

Oi, Grandad! is a 4 voice granular synthesiser inspired by modular synthesis and certain, "lazy" DAW compositon workflows.

Oi, Grandad! is built with HISE.

4 independant granular voices with extensive controls
12 indepentantly triggered complex modulation sources
Tracking modulation
Drone button for sustained playback
Delay per voice
Round Robin mode
Crossdfade mode

Known issues

It is reccomended to use samples of 3 seconds or larger, shorter files may cause crashes or audio dropouts.

The buffer size bug effecting later version of Logic Pro seems to be back. Buffer sizes lower than 512 will cause glitchy playback.

Installation

Linux

Copy oi grandad.vst3 to User/Home/vst3

Windows

Copy oi grandad.vst3 to C:\Program Files\Common Files\VST3

Mac

Download the zip and run the installer

Samples and presets

Before installation be sure to backup any presets you have created for Oi, Grandad!

Extract the zip file and the copy the oigrandad folder to:

Linux User/Home/.config/modularsamples/

Windows C:\Users/YOURNAME/AppData/Roaming/modularsamples/

Mac /Users/YOURNAME/Library/Application Support/modularsamples/

trouble getting started

Hi, I am not even sure I am using this correctly. I apologize if I am in error.
I downloaded oi.grandad.vst3.linux.tar.xz and put the oi grandad vst3 folder in the home/.vst3 folder on my computer.
I am using pop_os and ardour. the gui shows up as I expected but I cannot get it to accept a sound file by dropping, and no sound browser seems to work either. what have I goofed. it seems pretty straight forward so I am a bit of a loss.
thanks in advance for any help. I really hope I can get this to work, I saw it on venus theory's youtube vid and was VERY IMPRESSED.

Logic Pro 10.6.3 - Crash report

Buffer size set to 512. Crash happened after dragging my own samples into the four slots. It lasted only a few seconds of playing before quitting. I've attached the crash report.

When downloading, I just put the unzipped folder '"oi.grandad.vst3.win" that only contains the file "oi grandad.vst3" in the folder by which Ableton accesses all the VST3s on my computer (which is just C:\VST3 Installations in my case), so I don't really know where I should find this additionnal .dat file. Could you please help me with this ?

followed instructions but getting no sound

I followed the instructions for component and modular sample folder in the application support folder.
I'm getting no sound or presets and was unable to point the synth in the right direction
any suggestions?

Drone mode always active at startup with Logic Pro

Hi,using Logic Pro 10.7.2 and Grandad 1.1.3
Even if I save the Logic project with drone mode off, when I open it again drone mode is on
Fix: manually move the switch ON then OFF to stop the sound, or use automation

Linux builds

Any plans to put out a Linux binary compatible with Debian 11/Ubuntu 20?

Feature Request

Id like to request Oi Grandad support embedding/saving the imported samples within DAW based presets.

These days many people like myself save all plugin presets/ chains at the DAW level. This saves a lot of headaches having to backup presets from the sometimes endless amount of plugins you can build up.

When it comes to plugins that support the importation of samples, having the option to have them save within DAW based presets are a very nice feature to keep everything you create in one preset reliant upon the one preset file itself.

Couple other plugins that have done this is phase plant and the mangle.

Midi Map saved only with preset ?

clap plugin support?

Can't drag audio files

If I try to drag an audio file in Ableton it just acts as if the plugin is not there and as if I'm dragging into a session clip. The only way to work seems to be using the right clck, but then it'll only let me add .wav and I have to navigate each time. Is there no way to drag directly from ableton browser to the plugin?

The file browser do not open in GNOME.

Tested in GNOME 45 with Fedora 39, Wayland; and Debian 12.5 with GNOME 43.9, Wayland.

KDE works fine.

Logic buffer size bug

When using a buffer size below 512 In Logic Pro 10.7.4 (and possibly others) the sound becomes grainy and the position indicator moves erratically.

Oi Grandad on Win11 no sounds at all

I don't know why, but the plugin has no sound at all in Ableton 11, Win11.
The installation is correct. I can see a load the VST in ableton. I can enter the factory presets folder and choose one of them. But there is no output sounds. ( i checked if the samples in the folder have sounds and.. yes, if i open them i can listen to them).

Any advice?

Linux build with older GLIBC

It seems you've built your Linux version on quite a new system, which means it cannot run on even slightly older machines.

Please consider building on ie. Debian 11 or Ubuntu 20.04 instead.

Modulator control title is 'mutl'

Hi, great work, I'm new to granular but this is fab, many thanks!

It's a tiny thing but the title of the multiplier knob in the modulators shows as "mutl" - this is meant to be "mult" I think! I searched the code https://github.com/publicsamples/Oi-Grandad/search?q=mutl and it occurs in two XML files, maybe it's just a matter of correcting those.

Font Sizes

Using HISE 3 on Debian 11

I am able to build OI Grandad. Had to change paths for IPP. However the fonts appear to be too large. Could you offer any clues how to adjust this globally?

2.4b presets/settings window problem

Hello! I'm having trouble with the presets and settings window. When I press the button, it appears behind the four samplers. I'm using Reaper on Win 10 x64.

Ardour cannot scan correctly Oi-Grandad

Whenever I try to scan Oi Grandad with Ardour, it returns this message for VST3
