Smarter Social Metadata

Currently the social metadata uses the same image, post type, author info etc for every article.

  • This isn't a problem if haxe.io continues to just be me creating posts, but I want contributor and author information to be correct.
  • A picture in the post should be used instead of my logo, which should also change the twitter card type.
  • If a video is in the post and marked to be used as the social card, adapt.

Optimisations

  • WebFonts from Google Fonts can take a ?text= param with the characters required on the page, create tuli plugin to do this automatically, or do what smashing magazine has done.
  • Create optimised images as everything is currently high res. Parse the css to create images based on break points?
  • Use CloudFronts new content negotiation to serve the best images & video to the user.
  • Pre gzip files before upload.
  • Above the fold css

Roundup 192

I decided to link all articles, etc in an issue instead of them all being kept in my twitter favorites, gmail and other less visited places.

  • iPhone safari 7.1, 6.0, temperamental svg rendering issues
  • Windows 7 IE10, IE11 font-face rendering issues
  • No css styling on IE9 but content shows wont fix as a 5 people are using IE9

Setup issues

On a different computer, setting up every project is a pain. Currently imagemagick is missing a dll which is stopping me from continuing.

I've fixed some local path problems between projects but am unable to push from this machine :/.

wwx2014 speaker profile/interview questions

There has been some interest in a set of wwx speaker interviews/profiles to be released as the 23rd approaches on haxe.io.

I'm hoping you would be OK to answer the questions listed below. If you don't want to, its not a problem.

You don't have to answer all the questions either and if you feel some of the questions would be better answered combined or the order of some of the questions should be rearranged, that's fine.

I think the posts would work better if they flowed as naturally as possible instead of being isolated blocks of header and text. The Workspiration posts have a great tone and format to them so its worth checking out.

I've created a very simple markdown file for you to copy so you can provide a pull request. The file is at https://github.com/skial/haxe.io/blob/master/src/wwx/2014/copy_me.md, I think you should be able to do it all through github if you wanted. Or if your prefer you can email me with the text and I'll handle the rest. You can find my email on my github profile.

If you want to include images, links etc, I'm more than happy to include them.
