bbbadgebarbuttonitem's Introduction

BBBadgeBarButtonItem

Create a BarButtonItem with a badge on top. Easily customizable. Your BarButtonItem can be any custom view you wish for. The badge on top can display any number or string of any size or length.

ScreenShot BarButtonItem

How To Get Started

Installation with CocoaPods

Use the CocoaPods magic by adding in your podfile the following line :

pod 'BBBadgeBarButtonItem'

Manually

It's quite easy, just download and add "BBBadgeBarButtonItem.h" and "BBBadgeBarButtonItem.m" into your xcodeproject. Don't forget to import the header file wherever you need it :

#import "BBBadgeBarButtonItem.h"

Usage

Then, you only need to instantiate your beautiful BBBadgeBarButtonItem and add it to your navigation bar :

UIButton *customButton = [[UIButton alloc] init];
//...

// Create and add our custom BBBadgeBarButtonItem
BBBadgeBarButtonItem *barButton = [[BBBadgeBarButtonItem alloc] initWithCustomUIButton:customButton];
// Set a value for the badge
barButton.badgeValue = @"1";

// Add it as the leftBarButtonItem of the navigation bar
self.navigationItem.leftBarButtonItem = barButton;

If you want your BarButtonItem to handle touch event and click, use a UIButton as customView. The icon or text displayed by the BarButtonItem is your custom view.

Useful properties

Take a look at BBBadgeBarButtonItem.h to see how easily and quickly you can customize the badge. Remember that each time you change one of these value, the badge will directly be refresh to handle your styling preferences.

// Each time you change one of properties, the badge will refresh with your changes

// Badge value to be display
@property (nonatomic) NSString *badgeValue;
// Badge background color
@property (nonatomic) UIColor *badgeBGColor;
// Badge text color
@property (nonatomic) UIColor *badgeTextColor;
// Badge font
@property (nonatomic) UIFont *badgeFont;

// Padding value for the badge
@property (nonatomic) CGFloat badgePadding;
// Minimum size badge to small
@property (nonatomic) CGFloat badgeMinSize;
// Values for offseting the badge over the BarButtonItem you picked
@property (nonatomic) CGFloat badgeOriginX;
@property (nonatomic) CGFloat badgeOriginY;

// In case of numbers, remove the badge when reaching zero
@property BOOL shouldHideBadgeAtZero;
// Badge has a bounce animation when value changes
@property BOOL shouldAnimateBadge;

You can also choose to turn off the little bounce animation triggered when changing the badge value or decide if 0 should be display or not.

What else ?

The class is compatible with iOS >= 6.0.

There is a little demo project to help you if you need ;)

More

Any suggestions are welcome ! as I am looking to learn good practices, to understand better behaviors and Objective-C in general ! Thank you.

bbbadgebarbuttonitem's Issues

How must be used directly form storyboard?

If I add a barButtonItem in the navigation bar and change its custom class to BBBadgeBarButtonItem and in my code write:
BBBadgeBarButtonItem* chatBarButtonItem=(BBBadgeBarButtonItem*)self.navigationItem.rightBarButtonItem;
chatBarButtonItem.badgeValue=@"1";
It does not work.
Any help?

Not working in iOS 10

The badge value is there but the navigation bar icon is gone. But it's working in iOS 11.

Cocoa pod

Please add a cocoa pod to this project.

Updating badgeValue from AppDelegate didReceiveRemoteNotification

I'm [unsuccessfully] trying to update the badgeValue from the AppDelegate, barButton is nil.

BBBadgeBarButtonItem *barButton = (BBBadgeBarButtonItem *)self.window.rootViewController.navigationItem.leftBarButtonItem;
barButton.badgeValue = [NSString stringWithFormat:@"%d", [barButton.badgeValue intValue] + 1];

rotating button without the badge

Hi guys. I tried to do an animation on the BarButton while a Badge was displayed.

Since the Badge is attached to the Button, both will rotate. I only want the button image to rotate without the badge. Couldnt find a way to do that. Any inputs?

A problem when using BBBadgeBarButtonItem

I am Yanzi Li ,a new to learn iOS dev.Sorry to bother you to share my problem when i use BBBadgeBarButtonItem.The problem is that when i set title text for custom button instead of setting a image for it,the custom button title will cover a part of badge ,which is not the case i want.I hope the badge will cover a part of the custom button title. How can i solve this problem ?Thanks a lot.

When count is 0, badges does hide

NSInteger count = ([listOfUnread count]) ? [listOfUnread count] : 0;

BBBadgeBarButtonItem *barButton = [[BBBadgeBarButtonItem alloc] initWithCustomUIButton:show];
barButton.badgeValue = [NSString stringWithFormat:@"%lu", count];
barButton.badgeBGColor = colorBadgeColor;
barButton.shouldHideBadgeAtZero = YES;
barButton.shouldAnimateBadge = YES;

this is how im using your framework but when listOfUnread.count is 0 the badge doesnt disappear, it stays there with a 1

Border

This is sweet. Would be great to have an optional border around it for this effect.

I have just upgraded one of my Apps under development to iOS 9.2 and I have found that all navigationbar UIBarButtons have just disappeared and are not shown on the navigation bar.

When the application is RTL mode , i need to change alignment badge to left.

Thank you again,

Please don't delete your release tags

You're breaking our projects that are using cocoapods with the following Podfile

pod 'BBBadgeBarButtonItem',
        :git => 'https://github.com/TanguyAladenise/BBBadgeBarButtonItem',
        :tag => '1.0'

tintcolor is missing

Hi, My UIBarButtonItem has tintColor. And I hope the item can keep it.
however, it currently doesn't have the tint color.
I tried to add color to the custom button and it failed either.

Please take a look.
