Why force implementation of enabled property?

I created a game and never needed to use the enabled property once but was always forced to jump through the hoop of creating the property, only to never use it. I am not trying to imply that it is redundant simply that SKComponent's are very useful without ever using this property so maybe it should not be mandatory.

What is the reasoning behind making the enabled property of SKComponent mandatory?
