holdings from other library appearing in local view

JIRA issue created by: Jessica Gibson (gibsonjc)
Originally opened: 2016-03-10 09:52 AM

In the local view "Local Catalog Only" of KCC, why do I also see UIU holdings displaying?

https://vufind2-test.carli.illinois.edu/vf-kcc/Record/(KCCdb)44730

Is it because this KCCdb BIB has an 035 |a (UIUdb)4412655 in it?

This indicates to me that KCC catalogers must have copied the bib from UIUdb when they cataloged it. This will happen a fair amount, I think.

"All I-Share Libraries" version:
https://vufind2-test.carli.illinois.edu/all/vf-kcc/Record/205072625

Fines in Your Account display the wrong total

When there is more than one line of Fines/Fees but some of them represent payments that should reduce the total owed, the display does not subtract that properly. Instead, it adds every line to create an incorrect total.

035 field display links in I-Share results list are confusing

EIU - In I-Share view, on the results page under the title and a few other lines of information for each item, the display of the 035 fields is confusing to users and the links do not always work. Can these be hidden or the link text more descriptive?

SXU - The brief display of book information is VERY confusing to patrons: The call number does not show, but the meaningless OCLC number/code does show.

ISL - What does the (CARLI) link mean and then the other sources? They both seemed to map to the same location, so what is the point of it being located on the main search results screen?

Location facet and/or Voyager Location Limit Groups

Location Limit Groups--as set up in Voyager SysAdmin and currently available in VuFind 0.6 (https://www.carli.illinois.edu/products-services/i-share/opac/vf-loc-facets) --are not currently present in VuFind 3.

UIU - As someone who works on the reference desk/frequently with the catalog, ...locally we need to retain a search limit in the advanced search interface and on the right side of the search results screen for item location (in addition to institution which is already present). Particularly at UIUC this is a concern given the number of libraries on campus.

KIS, MMC, RMC, SML, TIU, and WRH holdings are not displaying

JIRA issue created by: Jessica Gibson (gibsonjc)
Originally opened: 2016-01-11 03:55 PM

No holdings for KIS, MMC, RMC, SML, TIU, and WRH are displaying in vufind2-test.carli.illinois.edu/all/ or vufind2-test.carli.illinois.edu/vf-xxx/

The "Holdings" tab is blank.

Is this because they were standalone Voyager instances before joining I-Share and have something different in their database configurations? For example, Gordon reports that the dbkeys for these six are not in the same form that the other I-Share libraries have.

Emailing a record does not work

When I click on the "Email this" link at the top of any record and enter my address in the To: line, my address in the From: line, and some Message text and click Send, I receive this error:

5.1.1 [email protected]: Recipient address rejected: Only carli.illinois.edu e-mails are allowed

856 URLs being duplicated in subsequent Holdings

This is a new, standalone Issue from a recent addition to #16 .

URLs are being improperly displayed in MFHDs that they don't belong in.

A URL in MFHD 1 shows up there once.
In MFHD 2, MFHD 2's URL and MFHD 1's URL shows up.
In MFHD 3, you see MFHD 3's URL, MFHD 2's URL, and MFHD 1's URL.
etc.

Example 1: (The American journal of photography (OCoLC)875140764 )
https://vufind3.carli.illinois.edu/all/vf-uiu/Record/222647703
UIC's URL appears in their Holding and again in UIU's holding

Example 2: (title: Grand Canyon: tuweep (OCoLC)948299582 )
https://vufind3.carli.illinois.edu/all/vf-sxu/Record/259453728
Each library has the same URL in this example because it is a government publication, but notice how each Holding adds another instance of the URL.

Example 3: (title: The death and life of American journalism the media revolution that will begin the world again (OCoLC)748371318)
https://vufind3.carli.illinois.edu/all/vf-uiu/Record/256396950
The proxy string for each library is different so you can see how they are repeating in each subsequent Holding.

AAB, ABB, and ABC Requests cannot be processed

JIRA issue created by: Jessica Gibson (gibsonjc)
Originally opened: 2016-03-04 04:30 PM

This problem occurs with requesting scenarios AAB, ABB, and ABC.
(AAA and ABA scenarios work correctly.)
where NNN = patron DB | item DB | pickup location DB

Call Slip requests cannot be processed by the Item's library when the patron DB and the pickup location DB are not the same DB. The system seems to be assuming that they are always the same, or, it is not passing enough information about the pickup location DB with the request details.

AAB Example:

MIL Patron: Page –
MIL Item: 31111130071865 (title: Choral music education)
DOM Pick up location: Dominican University, "DOM-DOM CIRCULATION DESK"

In DOMdb, the DOM CIRCULATION DESK's LOCATION_ID = 21

The call slip is entering the MILdb call slip queue with:
PATRON_DB_ID=0
PICKUP_DB_ID = 0 (1 is actually the database ID for “LOCAL” MILdb in MILdb's VOYAGER_DATABASES table, but 0 seems to work anyway and it does appear in other callslips not related to this testing)
LOCATION_ID=21 (pickup location ID is correct for DOMdb)

It should be:
PATRON_DB_ID=0
PICKUP_DB_ID = 9 (pickup database for DOMdb in MILdb's VOYAGER_DATABASES table)
LOCATION_ID=21 (pickup location ID is correct for DOMdb)

ABB and ABC examples to come.

Display of electronic resources links in a consortial environment

JIRA issue created by: Jessica Gibson (gibsonjc)
Originally opened: 2016-03-02 11:06 AM

I'm creating a separate issue for e-resources links display outside of VUFIND2-2 (since that one is for holdings without items not displaying at all).

For the most part, URLs in 856 fields are displaying now, but there are links under and Internet heading and links in the holdings area. I need to try to figure out where the links are coming from: bib or MFHD.
Example I've been looking at: https://vufind2-test.carli.illinois.edu/all/vf-wiu/Record/194499196

In I-Share, the ability of the user to chose the correct link for their access is critical.

I need to do more testing and set up more examples.

Also none of the 856 subfields that display text about the link are displaying yet: $y $3 $z

self-referring directory in /usr/local/vufind2/public/

I also noticed that each of the /usr/local/vufind2/public-vf-xxx/public/ directories refers to it, too.

oram@vufind2-test:/usr/local/vufind2/public-all-vf-adl/public$ ls -la

lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 25 Sep 14 2015 public -> /usr/local/vufind2/public

I don't know what this is for, but thought I should point out the endless loop!

Display needs spacing added between fields from the Item Record

SIC - Displays of multi-volume titles needs to insert spacing between field all of the values from the Item record. Right now, enumeration, chronology, and year are being concatenated with no spacing, which is creating displays that are difficult to understand.

Example 1:
https://vufind3.carli.illinois.edu/vf-eiu/Record/(EIUdb)396841
e.g., "v. 652002 June2002" where Item enum = "v.65", chron="2002 June", year="2002"

Example 2:
https://vufind3.carli.illinois.edu/vf-sic/Record/(SICdb)1506899
"v. 732002" where Item enum = "v. 73", year = "2002"

vufind3-test bib records do not match voyager-test/vufind-test bib records

vufind3-test contains bibliographic records that were added to production voyager after the current version of voyager-test was refreshed (Jan. 29, 2016), so there are more bib records in vufind3-test than there should be.

This means that for bibliographic records only, vufind3-test.carli.illinois.edu is not identical to voyager-test.carli.illinois.edu and vufind-test.carli.illinois.edu.

vufind3-test holdings/item data are being pulled directly from oracle-test, so those are identical to voyager-test.carli.illinois.edu and vufind-test.carli.illinois.edu.

vufind3-test Patron data are not impacted and are identical to voyager-test.carli.illinois.edu and vufind-test.carli.illinois.edu.

In Transit On Hold does not display

Is it possible to change the order in which search results display?

SIC - Is it possible to change the order in which a search results display? When I did a title search for “journal of higher education” (without the quotes), the microfilm record displayed first, then a different title, then the print record. The record for the online version was number 16!

No way to cancel a request?

JIRA issue created by: Jessica Gibson (gibsonjc)
Originally opened: 2016-03-24 09:36 AM

Once a request has been placed, there doesn't appear to be a way to cancel the request through Your Account.

In WebVoyage and VuFind 0.6, a user cannot cancel a request when it is at certain stages of the fulfillment process, but there are some stages at which point they can cancel the request through My Account to indicate that they no longer want the item.

shield user's barcode from being auto-remembered by the browser

The Username is the barcode, and the Password is the last name. Modern browsers often remember and auto-fill text typed into a Username box even when you don't have them specifically save the credentials. This would mean that a user's barcode is the thing that is being remembered and displayed. Can VuFind2+ shield the barcode like WebVoyage does? On the WebVoyage MyAccount log in screen, the Library Borrower ID box shows dots when you type in it and the Last Name box shows the text.

Notes and data fields in MFHDs do not display in Holdings tab

JIRA issue created by: Jessica Gibson (gibsonjc)
Originally opened: 2016-01-28 09:03 AM

Default VuFind 2.x doesn't seem to display any of the data fields (summary or detailed holdings) or public notes fields from the Voyager MFHD record. I haven't yet found that there are options to turn on to display more of this information, or maybe we aren't providing it the data it needs to display?

The VuFind2 demo and Villanova's own public catalog don't seem to display much more of this kind of information either (maybe they don't have this data?), although they do have a "Volume Holdings:" line coming from somewhere that looks like a summary one would find in a MFHD 866 field (Example: https://library.villanova.edu/Find/Record/1501304).

For VuFind 0.6, we developed a custom specification for the holdings displays to include information from the MFHD and the Item record. The current summary of that is at http://www.carli.illinois.edu/products-services/i-share/opac/vf-hldg-cfg ; I also have the documentation on the original specs. I'm not advocating that we have to do the exact same thing as in 0.6, but one cannot deny that there is a ton of holdings information missing from this default Holdings display tab in version 2.x.

Recall This link should be removed entirely

JIRA issue created by: Jessica Gibson (gibsonjc)

We do not allow patrons to recall materials on their own either locally or in I-Share, so the "Recall This" link should be removed/hidden/turned off everywhere. (Only library staff can place a recall in the Circ client.)

No way to renew a book?

JIRA issue created by: Jessica Gibson (gibsonjc)
Originally opened: 2016-03-02 11:09 AM

There doesn't appear to be a way to renew a book that is checked out to you when viewing your Account as a regular user.

In vufind2-test, KCC user:
first name: CARLI
last name:Testing
barcode: 789123456

I need to test this again as myself, too...

Requestability not apparent

NIU- I also noticed an issue that [is] a problem in the [current] version of VuFind: you do not immediately know that an item is not requestable. For instance, many I-Share libraries will not send DVD copies of older films (pre-1970 movies) to other institutions—and many will only allow patrons to view the DVD in its home library. It is not immediately apparent when you look at the record.

Rename "Storage Retrieval Request"

JIRA issue created by: Jessica Gibson (gibsonjc)
Originally opened: 2016-03-24 09:18 AM

When viewing an item in the catalog, the link to place a request currently says "Place a Storage Retrieval Request". This should be changed to "Request Item".

When viewing Your Account, the menu and heading read "Storage Retrieval Requests". This should be changed to "Requested Items".

No I-Share view

JIRA issue created by: Jessica Gibson (gibsonjc)
Originally opened: 2016-01-28 09:42 AM

There isn't an equivalent to http://vufind.carli.illinois.edu/all/vf/ that is branded as I-Share or indicates it is the union catalog.

Currently in production, the http://vufind.carli.illinois.edu/all/vf/ url goes straight to I-Share. The page with the institution dropdown list is https://i-share.carli.illinois.edu/ilcso/cgi-bin/welcome .

In vufind2, /all/vf/ goes to the institution dropdown page https://vufind2.carli.illinois.edu/all/vf/

Call number functions default to LC

Not all libraries use LC Classification system for call numbers. Out-of-the-box VuFind 3 configurations default to LC Classification for:

  • search by Call Number
  • Limit to call number (on Search/Advanced)
  • Browse by Call Number (on the front page)
  • Browse the catalog (in the footer)
  • sort drop down

Will these be customizable for non-LC libraries that use DDC or NLM? If not, can they be turned off?

Course Reserves unpopulated

JIRA issue created by: Jessica Gibson (gibsonjc)
Originally opened: 2016-01-25 01:27 PM

The Course Reserves pages are present but there are no data in the dropdown menus.

Example: https://vufind2-test.carli.illinois.edu/all/vf-uiu/Search/Reserves
(Compare with: http://vufind.carli.illinois.edu/vf-uiu/Search/Reserves)

https://vufind.org/wiki/configuration:course_reserves says this function is controlled by the ILS driver.

This feels to me like it falls under the beta test requirement question "can I search for stuff?"

List of holdings sometimes truncated

JIRA issue created by: Jessica Gibson (gibsonjc)
Originally opened: 2016-01-13 09:18 AM

VuFind2 is displaying a list of Items when Item records are present. But it seems records with a long list of items to display truncate the holdings, like serials.

Example: Journal of number theory
https://vufind2.carli.illinois.edu/all/vf-uiu/Record/250165651

The only holdings that display are EIU, IIT, and ISU. But the second ISU entry for Storage North: Request Online should have four entries, not two, so even that is truncated.

Other libraries also have holdings with Items that I would expect to see but don't: SIC, UIC, UIU.

Libraries who have holdings but don't have Items attached (so I wouldn't expect to see due to problem in VUFIND2-2 ) are: NIU (2), WIU, and SIE

For current holdings info, see I-Share: http://vufind.carli.illinois.edu/all/vf/Record/328208

wrong default pick-up location for users in some databases

JIRA issue created by: Jessica Gibson (gibsonjc)
Originally opened: 2016-03-09 12:12 PM

It seems to be true of all MIL patrons that their default pick-up location is SAI in their account And when I change it to the MIL location and click Save, it says it saves in a message, but then it immediately reverts back to SAI before my eyes.

I need to check more users in more databases.

When there is more than one 856 in the MFHD, VuFind 3 only shows the first one

This is a new, standalone Issue for #16 C. When there is more than one 856 in the MFHD, VuFind 3 only shows the first one.

Example 1: TIU's MFHD 901481 (bib 413487) has two 856 fields but only the first displays.
https://vufind3-test.carli.illinois.edu/vf-tiu/Record/(TIUdb)413487

Holdings Records with the same Location Name are collapsed into one display entry

JIRA issue created by: Jessica Gibson (gibsonjc)
Originally opened: 2016-01-12 10:35 AM

It seems that VuFind2 is collapsing all holdings with the same Location name into one display.

It is confusing because it is not equivalent to how multiple copies at the same location are stored in Voyager, but it is especially problematic in I-Share view where all Holdings are misrepresented under the first library name alphabetically.

Example 1: The Millennium Problems
a: Stacks location
https://vufind2.carli.illinois.edu/all/vf-uiu/Record/249319478
collapsing holdings for IMS, JUD, and KCC whose locations are all named "Stacks"
b: UIU Math location has two copies
https://vufind2.carli.illinois.edu/all/vf-uiu/Record/249319478

Example 2: Story of the new york times, 1851-1951
"Main Stacks" location
http://vufind2-test.carli.illinois.edu/all/vf-uiu/Record/250174016
two from DOM, one from GSU, one from UIU, all listed under Dominican

Example 3: Lovely Bones
Stacks location consolidates many libraries

Copy number doesn't display

JIRA issue created by: Jessica Gibson (gibsonjc)
Originally opened: 2016-01-13 12:35 PM

Traditionally, we have used the copy number from the MFHD 852$t for our OPAC displays; however, given that out-of-the-box VuFind2 isn't displaying much, if any, information from the MFHD as far as I can tell, I can understand why it isn't doing that!

But VuFind2 does display a lot of things from the Voyager Item record, and it has the word "Copy" hardcoded somewhere in its display, it just doesn't seem to be pulling the copy information from the Item record, or it is getting the information but not showing it.

(I don't know if this is a specific problem to solve or if it will be solved another way by ultimately making more information from the MFHDs display instead, but I thought it was unusual and worth noting.)
