mate-icon-theme's Introduction

mate-desktop
=============

mate-desktop contains the libmate-desktop library, the mate-about
program as well as some desktop-wide documents.

The libmate-desktop library provides API shared by several applications
on the desktop, but that cannot live in the platform for various
reasons. There is no API or ABI guarantee, although we are doing our
best to provide stability. Documentation for the API is available with
gtk-doc.

The mate-about program helps find which version of MATE is installed.

You may download updates to the package from:

   http://pub.mate-desktop.org/releases/

Installation
============

If you are not using a released version of mate-desktop (for example,
if you checked out the code from git), you first need to run
'./autogen.sh'.

How to report bugs
==================

Bugs should be reported to the MATE bug tracking system:

Last sync with transiflex broke the build

Latest commit replaces fields with default values and hence broke the build. Have not checked but mate-backgrounds also fail to build and may suffer from the same.

Repackaging needed

The mate-icon-theme deb package needs to be repackaged with newest additions.
Please, do not forget about it.

Problems with tray icons in mate panel

When resizing the mate panel in Linux Mint Mate from its default of 24 pixels in height, the network and volume icons dont look nice when the mate panel is between 25px and 31px. The network icon takes the icon 32px icon and scales it down, while the volume icon takes the 24px icon and scales it up.

Missing text-x-preview.icon in mimetipes

I see missing text-x-preview.icon in mimetypes in this theme. For example in /usr/share/icons/mate/48x48/mimetypes. Because of this bug I can't see text on thumbnails in Caja.
Please fix this bug and make correct text-x-preview.icon in this theme.
Thanks for help.

Ugly Desktop Icons with GTK+3 3.22.12

I just upgraded my Slackware laptop to GTK+3 3.22.12 and i upgraded mate-themes to 3.22.10 to match the GTK+3 version.

This is my new laptop icons and it seems to have a shadow and it's ugly.

here's what it looks like in GTK+3 3.18.9

Tested with default Menta theme

Maximize/Restore button change

Expected behaviour

I'd like to see the maximization/restore button on the upper bar of applications change: when the window is maximized the button should be something like this to restore its' default size:

_| |_

‾| |‾

and when the window is in its' default size the button to maximize should look like this:

|‾ ‾|

|_ _|

Actual behaviour

Just a plus sign

Desktop icon text color resets after reboot.

Note to mate-icon-theme team:
After navigating a few bug reporting systems, I believe I'm at least sort of in the right place. If this belongs elsewhere, please let me know so I can report this bug in the right place.

Subject:
Desktop icon text color resets after reboot.

System configuration:
Linux Mint 17 LTS (64-bit)
Kernel Linux 3.13.0-24-generic
MATE 1.8.1

Steps to reproduce:
Right click open area on Desktop → Change Desktop Background → Theme → Customize
Controls → Redmond
Colors → [NONE]
Window Border → WinMe
Icons → MintX
Pointer → DMZ (Black)
Pointer → Size → Smallest (leftmost on slider)

Right click open area on Desktop → Change Desktop Background → Background
Colors → Solid color (#64A5CD)

After applying the above settings the desktop icon text should be white with a dark drop-shadow. This is the correct behavior.

Once the OS is restarted, the desktop icon text will become black (and very difficult to read given the background color). Going back to the Solid color menu and changing the solid desktop background color to any other similar color (adjust the green by one value for example) will cause the icon text to adjust to the correct white text again.
If you then restart the OS again, the text will sadly revert back to the black text.

This bug is highly repeatable and happens every time.

This situation also affects the Start menu background color (makes it black instead of grey) but setting a custom color for the Start menu background worked as a work-around for that, but that might be related.

Volume status icons lost a lot of clarity

Expected behaviour

It should be possible to visually distinguish between the audio-volume-low/medium/high icons.

Actual behaviour

The audio-volume-low/medium/high icons are nearly indistinguishable after commit e0a539b.

Steps to reproduce the behaviour

Open a program (such as Audacious) that makes use of the audio-volume-low/medium/high icons.

Before/after of 22px audio-volume-high (zoomed in):

Notice how the three blue curves are nearly invisible in the newer icon.

Include several missing icons

Hopefully these icons can be added in the future. I enjoy the MATE icon theme a lot, despite even not using the MATE DE. I think it's much more professional than Breeze or Oxygen.

actions/edit-rename
Used for the "Rename" action, for example in context menus.

places/folder-development, places/folder-games
These are not standard XDG User Directories but commonly implemented in other icon themes.

actions/clock
This is a standard icon for showing a clock. The icon at preferences-system-time could be used.

actions/color-picker
It has a related symbolic icon (color-select-symbolic), but no colored icon.

Categories icons missing in mate-menu with nl_BE.UTF-8 local.

Expected behaviour

Categorie icons in mate-menu or even whisker with nl_BE.UT-8 local

Actual behaviour

No categorie icons in mate-menu or even whisker with nl_BE.UT-8 local

Steps to reproduce the behaviour

Switch to nl_BE.UTF-8 local for display language (everything will be in dutch!)
