cashflow's Issues

To discuss: home.php

We definitely want a home.php in this that will be a strong combination of a hero with CTA, some featured posts, testimonials, etc. Perhaps if I can sketch up home.php it will imply the patterns we need, and then just itself be those patterns grouped up.

Template parts to create

The following template parts need creating:

  • Comment Template: card-like style

@kimcoleman what other template parts are thinking of? I can think the following might be useful:

  • post meta.

List out all templates and template parts

Home.php/front has been mentioned (it might not be front to take over), but I wanted to give a space for other template parts and templates.

I have been creating a spreadsheet to pick from as create the theme.json and theme, there is a section for templates and one for template parts.

Add block style functionality to theme

To start add basic folders and functionality to theme.

This is as a setup. We can then talk about what block styles we want going forward. I will use js to register these.

Patterns: define what ones the theme will include

As part of the theme we discussed having a base set of patterns. It would be great to get their definitions here and that might just be a napkin sketch or visual to start.

Next step once have those here will be to create an issue per pattern to have them made during theme work.

Marking as 'blocker' because technically it would without knowing pattern boundaries.

Define what core blocks need styling

Some core blocks might have styling unique in theme, are there any should consider for example avatar, quote?

A start is to look at what repeat blocks/things are used in sites so we can provide styling for those or is in the theme.

Outcome of this will be an issue that adds in each of those to the theme.

Define what block style(s) want

If we have the basic functionality we can add at least one. I will leave it with a stylesheet for now over inline but you can always also make it inline. We can talk about the options there later.

The first part of this task is knowing what block style you want as a demonstration of it to follow.

Define what PMPro blocks need styling

PMPro blocks can have styling unique in theme, are there any should consider?

  • Single Membership Level (new in PMPro v3.0).
  • Membership Account block sections.
  • Membership Checkout block (can carry similar style for Membership Invoice block)
  • Advanced Levels Page Shortcode block (this is in an Add On)
  • Member Directory block and single Member Profile Page block.

For some of these, a block style may be the better path. A block style that adds a "card"-like style (rounded corner and box shadow to make the sections lift off of the page / be distinguished).

Outcome of this will be an issue that adds in each of those to the theme.

Typography scale review and set

Currently the typography scale is rather intense based from Memberlite and has an extensive list. This is now pushed to repo but means we have a long list.

It is recommended to not have lower than 18px / 16px at non-key readability or 1rem text. This means that several sizes break for a11y and also if we removed those we could gain some reduction in scale.

I would recommend reducing the number of text sizes offered as there is custom left on. If we can get down we can also get the benefit of not having a dropdown which looks far better visually.
