Team's Response

This is rejected as this is a design consideration from our team to be consistent with the way NUS accounts for re-taken modules.

This is as per NUS's system, if you SU'd a failed module, and re-took the module again in another semester, only the graded re-taken module would be taken into consideration for the calculation of CAP and ultimately the user's results.

Therefore, to prevent confusion to users, we ensured that users are unable to add duplicated modules, so that users will not be able to accidentally count the same module twice.

The user would thus need to delete the failed module, and re-add the graded module, which is the ONLY module that NUS would consider in the user's results, and is thus consistent with NUS's system.

Hence, this is rejected as this behaviour is expected and intended.

Severity is changed to low as this would not affect most users who get at least a pass, thus only occurs in rare situations, and in the event that they do fail the module and need to retake the module, the functionality of the app would not be affected as the CAP calculation for the user would still be accurate as the app would only take into consideration the grade of the ONE graded module that the user ultimately inputs.

Reason for disagreement: > This is as per NUS’s system, if you SU’d a failed module, and re-took the module again in another semester, only the graded re-taken module would be taken into consideration for the calculation of CAP and ultimately the user’s results.

This is only right if the user SU the module. If you got an F and doesn't SU the module, which can happen quite often as many modules are not SU-able and the number of SU is limited. The F grade will still affect the detominator for the CAP calculation.

If not people that think they got a C/D would just withdraw from the module to get an F and retake it the next sem to get a better grade. Does that even make sense?

The user would thus need to delete the failed module, and re-add the graded module, which is the ONLY module that NUS would consider in the user’s results, and is thus consistent with NUS’s system.

The behaviour is not consistent with the NUS system.

Additionaly, deleting the previous module even for SU's modules is not a good solution. As the app doesn't reflect the user SU usage. This can a create a false believe for the user thinking they have more SUs than they actually have.

Reason for disagreement: This is a functionality bug as the app does not work as expected.

Specificaly, the app offers an add module functionality. I expect to able to add modules I am retaking. There's nothing that indicates otherwise.

As the developer doesn't provide any data to backup this claim. I can only comment from my experience it's actually quite common to fail a module. I have known directly 3 of my friends that failed a module by sleeping through the final. They are not bad students by any means. I also know someone that decide to withdraw from a module after the midterm due to personal reason. Lastly, I'm a tutor for a module, with tutorial group of size 8. I know that one of my student is definitely failing the module, Hence, I believe failing is not as rare as the developer said.
